What is Collaborative Divorce?

Collaborative Divorce…

is a process in which the parties and their attorneys work to resolve all issues in an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and integrity. Collaborative Divorce requires a full and open exchange of information. The goal is to minimize the negative emotional and economic consequences of divorce.

The parties, supported by their attorneys, work cooperatively toward a satisfactory settlement in an efficient and cooperative manner in four-way settlement conferences.  If it will benefit the parties, other professionals such as a certified divorce financial planner or a mental health coach will be included in the process.

Each party will have dedicated representation throughout the divorce process. The Collaborative Divorce Attorneys of Fairfield County are committed to work diligently on behalf of their clients to find creative ways to reach an equitable settlement. If they are unable to arrive at a settlement, the attorneys withdraw from the case and the parties may then transition to the traditional adversarial process.

Our goal is to minimize the negative economic, social and emotional consequences of protracted litigation on the participants and their families. We commit ourselves to the collaborative divorce process to help the parties achieve a resolution that empowers them to move forward.
